Citing ‘basic physics,’ a judge berated the FAA over shrinking airline seats
A US federal judge cited physics in a ruling regarding the Federal Aviation Administration's claims about the safety of shrinking legroom on passenger flights. Although the ruling doesn't stop airlines from continuing to reduce legroom, the judge called the FAA's assertion that seat spacing has no impact on evacuations ridiculous. "As a matter of basic physics, at some point seat and passenger dimensions would become so squeezed as to impede the ability of passengers to extricate themselves from their seats and get over to an aisle.”
